June 2024 Updates/Highlights
June 18th Resources Meeting:
Mr. Musso provided an update on the district’s budget, detailing actual revenue and expenditures through June in comparison to the adopted budget.
The meeting also covered discussions on the millage rates for the 2024-2025 fiscal year.
June 18th Work Session:
The board considered a contract with Superior Office Products Print Shop, aimed at improving cost efficiencies and conserving teacher time for classroom activities.
Mr. Musso sought approval for the Louisiana Attestation Questionnaire, essential for financial auditing compliance, and presented the proposed budget and salary schedule for the 2024-2025 school year.
Additionally, he (Mr. Musso) addressed the need to update insurance terms following changes in property insurance premiums and requested the renewal of Angelo’s Lawn-Scape of Louisiana’s contract.
The board was also asked to approve an audit engagement with EisnerAmper for the upcoming year and to consider a joint agreement with the City of Zachary to support student resource officers and crossing guards.
The renewal of the Fennwood Hills Country Club contract was discussed, with attention to the temporary loss of access experienced in the previous year.
Mrs. Coats presented the food and supply bids for the next school year.
Mr. Burke introduced the student rights and responsibilities handbook for approval.
The session concluded with the tabling of a decision regarding attendance at the Southern Region Leadership Conference and the Superintendent Evaluation into the next meeting.
June 18th Regular Session:
Superintendent updates included the finalization of the print shop, internship opportunities, and the progress of the Bank of Zachary’s construction within the high school.
Key dates such as the Teacher’s convocation on August 6th and the first day of school on August 8th were announced.
The completion of a demographic study and the initiation of Strategic Planning with the aid of a state grant were also mentioned.
Trivento Development’s land offer to Zachary Schools was briefly noted.
The session covered the Comprehensive Literacy State Development program’s funding, which aims to support student subgroups through tutoring and professional development.
The board approved various contracts, budgets, and handbooks, with Dr. London (post author) expressing concerns over discipline policy disparities, uniform requests from community, and policy language.
Approval was given for board members attendance at the Southern Region Leadership Conference.
Mr. Necaise expressed gratitude for the board’s feedback on his evaluation.
June 27th Special Meeting:
The City of Zachary’s rejection of a contract due to concerns over cost-sharing and raises for crossing guards was a point of discussion.
Chief Lawrence confirmed no issues with the contract’s current form and intent to address the council’s concerns.
The board deliberated on the addition of navy blue pants to the uniform policy, with a decision to move the matter to the handbook committee for further processing.
Updates to the salary schedule were approved to comply with legislation requiring teachers to be compensated at their individual hourly rates for certain school-based activities.
The board also approved revised job descriptions that formalized existing duties without adding new responsibilities.
