Hey there, Zachary Community! Here's a quick recap of our recent July 2024 meetings:

July 2024 Updates/Highlights

Special Meeting:
  • We're working on adding new policies to our handbook due to recent legislation. Topics include truancy, home study programs, discipline, and behavioral health.

  • Stay tuned for a full policy update!

Resources Meeting:
  • Mr. Musso presented revisions to the 2023-2024 budget.

  • We're seeing increases in revenues from sales tax, Medicaid funding, and more. These funds are being allocated towards pay increases for staff, purchasing computers, and other expenditures.

Work Session:
  • We discussed approving the budget revisions and renewing our insurance benefits.

  • We also looked at new policies, including a new legislation-based policy (e.g., 10-point grading scale) and dress code changes.

  • We discussed lunch prices increases of 10 cents for students and increases in breakfast prices for employees.

Regular Meeting:
  • We approved minutes from June 2024 and renewed our insurance.

  • We’re preparing for strategic planning with Empower, so watch out for surveys and focus groups invitations. We’re also launching a new teacher evaluation program this Fall.

  • The 2024-2025 school year is fast approaching, with orientations (currently in session), our Teacher Convocation and Meet and Greet on August 6th, and the first day of school on August 8th.

  • We approved the revised 2023-2024 budget, updated 10-point grading scale, and changed Copper Mill Elementary School’s colors to blue and red. This vote was supported by the more than 90% favorability rating from former and incoming Copper Mill Elementary Students, who responded to a grade-wide survey. We are still discussing adding navy blue pants to the dress code, so please respond to the active survey.

  • Lastly, I (Dr. London) and Dr. Young attended the Southern Leadership Conference this past weekend and will share some of what we learned at our next work session.

Stay tuned for more updates, and remember, we're all in this together!
