We have been busy! Here is a summary of what we've been up for January.

Updates for January 2024

Work Session & School Board Meeting

1. Zachary has issued a request for proposals (RFP) to receive bids for transportation services. Following the close of the application and interviewing, a recommendation will be made to the board, as early as March.

2. Seven new policies were approved. (Check back here soon for details).

3. Our Strategic Plan meeting with be held Thursday, February 1st, at 6:00 p.m. at the Zachary Community School Board Office. This meeting is open to the public.

4. The Bank of Zachary will be opening a new branch at Zachary High School. Students will have the opportunity to participate in internships, business classes, and learn about financial literacy.

5. Our district-wide SEL program, Aperture, will soon be phasing out as ESSER funding comes to a close. District and school leaders are currently planning next steps to ensure that students continue to receive access to high-quality mental health resources. Our district will also soon see the release of cultural competence surveys.

6. Congratulations to Ms. Karin Lawless on your retirement! We welcomed Mr. Jarreau as the new lead for the Accountability department.

7. We discussed a potential motion to change new language in our “Public Comments” policy that prevents the public from speaking on agenda items for which a vote will not be taken. The proposed motion will allow the public to comment on any agenda item.

8. We took a closer look at our District Performance Score (DPS) outcomes broken down to the state’s subgroups: Students with Disabilities, Students who Qualify for Free Lunch, and Race/Ethnicity. The state reported a notable gap in the overall scores between Black and White students in Zachary. We look forward to prioritizing this in strategic planning.

9. There were no new committee reports.

10. The Academic committee may soon schedule to meet.

11. No new agenda items have been requested, at this time.
