We have been busy! Here is a summary of what we've been up for February.

February 2024 Updates/Highlights

Updates for February 2024

Work Session & School Board Meeting

1. We recognized our students

      State Champions: Sarah Houston, ZHS Girls' Wrestling;

      State Champions: ZHS JROTC Armed Drill Team;

      ZHS ACT 30+ Club; and

      Student entrepreneur, Logan McCarthy - founder of Bulky Bears Protein Gummies

2. We recognized the ZCSD Child Nutrition partnership with Muse 3 Farms which will provide our school system access to high-quality beef from local farms!

3. We approved the Memorandum of Understanding between Bank of Zachary and ZCSD to add a branch in ZHS! This will open up opportunities for internships and financial literacy for students!

4. Amanda Strebeck presented outcomes of this year's financial audit. Our finance team received an unmodified opinion from the auditor!

5. Approved the 2024-2025 calendar. You should soon see this available on our website.

6. Received an update (during strategic planning) for ongoing discussions around exploring an alternate salary schedule to address staff pay.

7. Received updates on exit interview data for teacher retirees and resignations in our district.

8. Received update on planning for demographic study. This study will help us to understand ways, in which our community has grown/changed and assist in 5-year strategic planning to meet the needs of our community. We will also explore the option of partnering with the city for this study.

9. Board committees were approved. Committees include Academic, Resource (Finances), Policy & Governance, Parental & Community Involvement, and Safety & Organization. Committees are made up of board members and administrators.

10. Brief discussion of proposal to change the structure and time of work session and board meetings, so that board meetings run directly after the work session. This conversation was tabled to allow our team to probe further into and explore options for these logistics.

11. Discussion of new policy language which prevents the public from speaking on agenda items for which a vote is not taken. A motion placed on the floor to remove the language was not supported. The board agreed to table the item and continue the discussion.

12. Our superintendent provided a series of updates related to A+PEL audit, strategic meeting outcomes, and more greatness to come from our students.
