New Policies, January 2024
Based on Legislation
1. School boards must make sure that the fee schedule for copying public records is posted where it can be readily available to the public. The new policy also discusses appropriate management for disposing of public records.
2. School boards must provide details of any donations made for academic purposes and make them available to the public. Note: General donations do not fall under this new policy.
3. Schools are required to have an automated defibrillator (AED), AED/CPR-trained staff members, and a cardiac emergency plan in place for interscholastic athletic events.
4. For students in K-5, schools are required to provide 15 minutes of unstructured, unsupervised, recess that allows for free play each day.
5. LDOE will select a dyslexia screener and make it available - at no cost - to schools.
Not Based on New Legislation
1. To better align with existing laws, the Probation policy has been updated to grant the Superintendent authority to dismiss (non-teacher, non-bus operator) staff, without a hearing before the School Board.
2. The word, “legal”, has been added to complete the phrase “legal guardian”, when describing procedures for parent conferences. The term “tutor” has also been removed. “Pupil” has been replaced with “student”.
